In the early hours of the morning, Arnan rose. there was nothing unusual about this. His days started very early unless he was ill. As he did nearly every morning, he fixed himself a hot drink and a small breakfast pastry. In general, there was nothing outstanding or odd about his morning. What was special about the day is that he had planned an outing. He was terribly excited. Though he was only going to the market, and perhaps to window shop, he knew he would get to chat with people, and buy some sweets, and show off his keen fashion sense. As such, he knew he needed to pick the perfect outfit. Two cups of tea and a fashion montage later, he had settled on a complicated royal blue robe, his hair was up in a fussy up-do of braids and a few crystal accents. Happily, he went into town. Despite his overly long fashion sojourn, much of the community was just waking up, opening its doors, stretching its wings. This was Arnan's favorite part of the day, when all was full of possibility.

A dark haired - dark all over, really - figure approached Arnan, stopping in front of him when he was a respectful distance away. He bowed his head to the shorter man, a small smile curving the corners of his lips. "Good morning, Master Jacobi." his voice was like the rest of him, dark and rich, low and rumbling like the purr of some great cat.
Kanoro might not have agreed with Arnan's love for outlandish attire, but it made him glad to see the older man take such great pride in something. "Is Ry out and about this morning as well?" He briefly glanced about, not seeing the young man anywhere nearby. "Or is His Royal Laziness still lounging about in bed?" His teasing was good natured and devoid of malice. Pyry had made plans with Kanoro for breakfast, but he had a feeling they were going to have to be pushed back to lunch.

Arnan started and then smiled broadly. He had been off in his own little world when Kanoro had appeared. "Kanoro!" he said warmly, as though speaking to a child. Kanoro was used to it, though. Arnan acted as though Pyry was still in grade school, including the way he addressed Pyrys acquaintances. "Pyry's not with me this morning, but he has likely at least made it to the lounge, though likely only to the couch." He laughed, a light musical laugh. "You're up early," he said approvingly. He took a step and took both Kanoro's hands in his own, smiling broadly. "The garden door is open; feel free to drag him out. He always enjoys your visits." Arnan released him. "He has so few friends. He can be so surly."

Kanoro nodded with a small, subdued smile of his own. "The early bird gets the worm, Master Jacobi. But it's a good thing that's not the only way, or your little Ry would starve," he added the last with a jocular chuckle.
When Arnan released his hands, Kanoro stepped back and bowed his head to the older man. "I'll go pull his lazy carcass out into the world, Master Jacobi. He needs to stop acting like a rock star and start acting like a member of the community." He bid Arnan goodbye and was on his way, walking at a brisk pace to reach the Jacobi residence.
Going through the garden door he found Pyry lounged on the couch, asleep again as he'd expected, in rumpled clothes he'd likely passed out in the night before. He approached with silent footfalls, kneeling beside his friend and taking in his features for a moment. He committed every detail to memory: the way his careless hair fell about his eyes in brunette waves, the way those long lashes rested on his lightly tanned cheeks, the pristine white of his wings that truly made him look like an angel - especially while he was asleep.
After a moment of quiet reflection, Kanoro looked to the table beside the couch and grabbed the glass of water there. A wicked grin crossed his features for the barest of seconds before he tossed the contents onto his sleeping friend and set the glass back on the table with such grace that it seemed neither he nor the glass had moved. He did his best to look innocent, but such purity had never been a strong point for the dark Celestial.

Arnan smiled broadly as Kanoro left him. "What a nice boy," he commented, and continued on his way. Ry nearly woke as the door shut, but he just turned onto his back, asleep again in moments. After he impromptu shower, he shot up, sputtered and shaking droplets of water everywhere. His eyes, green flames, locked on his friend. "Kanoro," he scowled, wiping his face. "Decided to come bathe me?" His cool features shifted from anger to mischief in an instant. "Here, let me return the favor." He wiped his wet hands on Kanoro's chest briskly, though the thin film of water had become a thin layer of frost already. Ry shook, water and tiny ice crystals shaken off. He noisily yawned, keeping his eyes steady on his friend. "Morning, at least I assume that's when it is."

"Decided to come bathe me? ... Here, let me return the favor."
Kanoro smirked, his smirk becoming a gasp at both the chilly feel of Ry's fingers on his chest and the further cooling effect as the water crystallized on his skin. He allowed the frost to soak up his natural body heat, which ran quite a bit hotter than most people, before his violet eyes glowed and warmth radiated off of him in waves that made the very air about him shimmer. Liquid once more, the droplets of water ran down the solid planes of his chest and abdomen. He shut off the heat as Ry spoke once more. "Morning, at least I assume that's when it is."
Kanoro nodded. "It is still morning. And quite early for you, I'm certain. However..." he stepped in closer to his slightly shorter friend, close enough that a heavy breath would have made them touch. "You and I were supposed to have breakfast half an hour ago, Angel Boy."

Ry yawned loudly again, but it was obviously affected. "I must've thought I'd still be awake. You know me better than to expect me to rise early." He ran his fingers through his hair and breezed past Kanoro, his wingtips lightly grazing the other. "It's still early, anyway, Kano, and you've done me the favor of bathing me, so we can go now." He was nonchalant, looking over his shoulder with his hands in his pockets. He smiled, a gesture fairly rare for him. It made him seem almost as angelic as when he was sleeping. Ry loved when Kanoro came to see him. He didn't put on airs of indifference around him and always deferred to his requests, unheard of since Ry was a teenager around anybody outside his own father. "What do you think?"

Kanoro gave Ry a small smile of his own. He nodded and the two began walking. "You're agreeable this morning. You slept well, I take it?"
They walked in comfortable silence for a few minutes until they drew nearer their destination. Before Ry could say anything, Kano cut him off with a little chuckle. "And yes, we are having breakfast at The Angel." The Angel, short for "The Outrageous Angel", was a twenty-four seven restaurant with a bar, and happened to feature some of the most gorgeous and scantily clad staff in the realm.
His face sobered quickly and his voice lowered, speaking to the Inger in an almost-whisper. "I know your father usually protects you from this sort of thing, but I may have found some mercenary work for us, if you're up to it. I know you've been itching to get out of that house lately."
Once inside, a pretty red haired girl with full black wings seated them and was off so their server had room. He approached and Kano smiled up at him. "Morning, Kaos." His twin brother, of the non-identical variety, nodded lightly in acknowledgment and took down what Kanoro usually ordered without even asking while he filled them in.
Where Kanoro was dark, Kaos was blond, fair skinned, and slightly taller. He also had wings that he could conceal when it was convenient. But since he was at work and it was part of the gig, the lengthy white pinions were proudly displayed behind him. Kaos's eyes were his most attention grabbing feature, one wholly black and one totally white save the pupil. His hair was shorter on top, with longer and straight tendrils that snaked their way down nearly to his waist. The blond had black underneath it, a dye job most people would have killed for, but was completely natural. Kaos was full of dualities just as Kanoro was full of darkness, which was to say nothing of their youngest brother Krayn, who was as pristine as Kano was sullied.
"...It's a pretty big deal. I mean, chances like this don't come along often, Kano-san."
Kanoro was silent a moment. "...Do you really think that there's someone, or something purposely offing powerful Celestials? And if they are, then it's clearly something that should be dealt with through more open and public authorities. Besides, if they're strong enough to hang Miki out to dry like he was laundry..." He didn't feel the rest of the statement needed to be said aloud.

Pyry went willingly along with Kanoro. Mercenary work sounded like it could be a few entertaining evenings. He nearly objected at their destination, though. It's not that scantily clad servers or a bar at eight in the morning were bad things in his book, but his father was another story. He thought briefly about the last time he had mentioned going there to him. His father had blushed and covered his face with his sleeves. "Oh, my little Ry! But what ever could you want to do there?" He hadn't really wanted to discuss it, hoping not to scandalize him further. His other problem with The Angel came to take their order and talk mercenary business. He could never put a finger on why, but he wasn't really a Kaos fan. Maybe it was that he was possessive, and he didn't enjoy the brotherly bond the two shared. Maybe it was the fact he never seemed to have trouble concealing his wings when he wanted to. Maybe he just didn't like his face. whatever it was, Pyry was public Pyry around Kaos, cold, aloof, and borderline bored. Pyry tuned back in at the end of Kaos' explanation to Kanoro, and listened carefully to his answer. Miki? He had heard something, but not really any specifics. His father hadn't wanted him to get involved. It was troublesome, though. The Jacobis were a powerful family, and though he and his father were a little branch, Pyry worried silently about his only real family. But Kano had a point. Something that could hang Miki out to dry like it was nothing was a real problem for a lot of people. But then why secrecy and vigilantism? Pyry turned his cool eyes back over Kaos. "What do you suggest?" His tone was flat. He tried to keep all emotion or interest out of it. He wondered how thought through what Kaos was presenting them with was, and what he thought could be done, and where he thought they would fit into it.

Kano slid over in the booth so his brother could sit beside him, leaning in close so their conversation wouldn't be overheard by potentially prying ears. Kaos seemed both nonchalant and horribly worried about the situation all at once. "Well, to be frank I don't know a lot about the job. Nobody gave me specifics. They just told me to scout for someone who might be able to get the job done quickly and quietly. Before..."
"Before the body count gets too high." Kano said, his violet eyes darkening slightly. His brother nodded, his mind and expression an open book. The darker twin worried his lower lip between his teeth for a second while his thoughts raced. "Who do we need to see to get the information we need?"
Kaos looked down at his hands, knotting them together almost subconsciously, unable to meet his brother's gaze. He mumbled something under his breath, sighing and finally looking up, his two toned eyes having a hint of fear in them as he spoke the name aloud. "Anukaran."
Kanoro went still as a statue, as if the very utterance of that name might summon its owner to the spot they were seated. "Holy shit, Kaos... I didn't know it was that serious."
His brother nodded. "It is. There's word going round that even a few of the Builders are worried about whoever - or whatever - is responsible for this."
"But even with the way Miki was killed... What makes them think this is the work of a serial killer?"
"I'm not sure, Kano-san. I just know that it's bad and it has everyone spooked. And if you two decide not to take the job once you go see him, then I'm sure I can find someone else who'd be happy to throw their heads on the chopping block."
Kano was quiet for a few moments, confident in his own abilities, and certain that combined with Pyry's own they could more than easily take down just about anything. But if the Builders were frightened... He turned to his closest friend and said softly, "This one's your call, Ry."

Ry considered his options. This was serious shit. He knew that. He knew that serious shit called for a serious response. He also knew that getting involved in serious shit was possibly unsafe, crazy stupid and a surefire way to give his father a heart attack. He raised and lowered a shoulder in a lazy shrug. "We might as well at least get the details." Truthfully, he was nervous. But nothing about him betrayed it. If there was one thing that Pyry had, it was a serious poker face. He wasn't so sure of the starting point of this adventure. It could only get more complicated and more dangerous. But he decided to trust in he and Kano. They could always pull out if things got too messy. Right? Right. "We shouldn't waste time," he said evenly, his eyes on Kano's face.

"Aye," he agreed with a nod. Bidding his brother farewell, hopefully not for the last time, Kanoro and Pyry set out for the dwelling of the Celestial, Anukaran. For the average trip there, it would be several hours of walking at a rather brisk pace. But this time around, Kano had brought with him a gift from his mother that he'd only used on one occasion before: a piece of machinery created by the Technomancers in very limited supply that would allow the wearer and one "passenger" to cover any distance in a matter of mere seconds if they were familiar with their destination. Luckily for both of them, Kano had been to the home of the powerful Celestial before and knew the layout of the mansion rather well.
He explained the device briefly to Ry when they had found a quiet place away from the beaten path and prying eyes. Technology such as this was very taboo, and although not quite illegal, it was highly frowned upon for the most part by anyone up the chain in the hierarchy of Elysium. They said it wasn't right to tamper with the fragile fabrics of time and space. At this particular moment in time and considering the crisis at hand, Kano found himself not particularly giving a damn.
He strapped the thing onto his wrist and it looked like a very weather-beaten old wrist watch. He held his hand out to the other young man, urgency apparent in his eyes. "Are you ready?"

Ry nodded seriously. "Yes." The whole thing made him queasy, and without Kaos around, it was a little more apparent. "As I'll ever be."

Kano took Pyry's hand in his, holding it tightly and saying simply: "Hold your breath." He turned the knob on the side of the watch as though winding it and closed his dark eyes, firmly envisioning the home of the Celestial they sought.
The world around them distorted, everything running and melting together into an amalgam of colors and shapes that made no sense, even though they were every day things that should have been recognizable. It looked like a watercolor painting left out in the rain. When the swirling came to a sudden halt, both Kanoro and Pyry landed next to the shrubs just outside the high retaining wall that surrounded the estate of Anukaran.
Kano was panting and sweating, both hands on the grass as he balanced his weight on one knee. There was a reason trinkets from the Technomancers weren't used often... They took a toll on a person. Finally he raised his head and brushed damp strands of hair back from his face with shaking fingers, violet eyes shining with determination.
A bit of money and a chance to save their world... Why not?
