(Not sure where this will fall, as of yet. Transcribed from text message RP between me and the Colin.)
The constant rainfall spoke softly of a time when things were easier. The warm water poured over his body, making his cold flesh feel almost alive again. Ruki looked around the field. The trees were offering shelter he had to decline. "There is no shelter for one who does not wish for it." His head tilted to the sky. "Will there ever be a home for one such as myself?"
It was just like before, but not nearly as frightening. "I'm totally quitting sleeping, cold turkey." CJ vowed to herself, staying under the shelter of the tree line, still getting lightly misted by the rain. "Ruki?" she said quietly, not wanting to get his attention, but wondering how she'd ended up in his dream, his world.
The sound of a familiar voice caused Ruki to look away from the sky to a nearby tree. There, sitting beneath it, was -- "CJ?" He moved slowly towards her. I am not dreaming of her... am I? he thought as he moved under the tree. "I wasn't expecting you here, of all places..." He stood before her, the rainwater dripping off his face and hair.
CJ watched the water dripping from him with almost entranced fascination. "I don't know if either of us is dreaming or if this is real..." she murmured, getting to her feet and standing close to him, looking up at him while the water cascaded down around them. She looked around curiously and said simply, "I know I didn't walk here, but that doesn't mean anything with how shit's been going down lately."
"Strange though... I don't remember going to sleep. But then, this has to be a dream." He placed his hand on his forehead then ran it through his hair, allowing water to shake and fall to the already saturated ground. Ruki's hand fell from his head and he placed it on CJ's shoulder. "Whatever is going on, I'm glad I'm not in it alone." He smiled slightly.
CJ opened her mouth to respond and the grey sky above them darkened, taking on a reddish cast. Lightning streaked across the sky and a near-deafening clap of thunder rattled her to the core. The rain became thicker and darkly crimson, the sharp scent of blood filling the air. "What the fuckin' hell?!" CJ screamed, dashing back under the trees, but already being thoroughly saturated by the deluge.
The smell of the blood caused Ruki to gag. I know this smell! It's him! He's here! Ruki called to the girl. "Take cover, CJ. This is going to be ugly..." He took a battle stance and called out, "Where are you? Come out, you bastard!"
CJ shook her head in denial, going no further under the trees, her bare feet getting splashed by the gore that poured from the sky as if someone'd eviscerated Heaven. Lightning of an orange hue arced across the horizon, blinding in its intensity. As the smell of ozone assaulted her nostrils, the man appeared. The one from before... Gekido...
Naked from the waist up, muscles clearly formed from martial arts glistening in the macabre rain, he had a katana drawn and pointed challengingly at the vampire. "Stop guarding the girl... We mean her no harm..."
Ruki bared his fangs and pulled out two punching daggers. "Like I haven't heard that one before, Gekido!" Ruki let out a deep yell as he jumped at the Strider, throwing his right fist toward his face while his left aimed for the creature's chest.
The Strider merely smirked, catching Ruki's right wrist and twisting it so violently that it snapped like dry tinder. He turned swiftly to the side and took the second dagger between his ribs, laughing as it punctured his right lung, fresh and almost black blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. With his free hand, he drove the katana clear through Ruki's midsection, drawing a shriek from CJ. Burying it to the hilt, he leaned in to whisper in the vampire's ear: "Do you know what happens when you die in your dreams, Ruki?"
Clean this time, Carmelia was desperately shaking the unconscious vampire before her, on her knees on the sidewalk beside him in an area she didn't even recognize. Her concern growing at the sudden blossom of red that appeared, hot and wet, on his white dress shirt, she said softly and vehemently all at once, "Come on... Snap out of it, Ruki! Don't give in!" She placed her hands on his abdomen to keep his insides from becoming his outsides, glad that her own scream had awoken and freed her from the nightmare.
Outside his dream, Ruki's body began to jolt in pain, and though his mind was elsewhere, his body still felt the full force of its battle that occurred within his own dreamland.
To Gekido, the pain was delicious. He relished in it, eyelids fluttering shut almost as if the agony were pleasure. The embodiment of Wrath pulled his sword from Ruki's midsection, giving the blade a pointed twist as he extracted the reinforced steel. He dragged fingertips across the bloody front of the vampire's shirt, fading into nothingness with a warning: "Wake up, guard-pup... You can't protect her from us forever..."
With a jolt, Ruki awoke from his nightmare. His screams of pain were muffled by the blood gurgling in his mouth. His hands moved to his wounded body, his right arm withdrawing as he reacted to his snapped wrist. His eyes looked to CJ, her fear and concern apparent. "C...J..." he tried to stand but it was no use. He had to will himself up, will himself better. He had to be ready to fight them at any moment... He had to protect her.
Tears ran down her cheeks from fear, anger, frustration... What the hell made her so special, anyway? She looked into his eyes and put both hands above and below the break in his wrist. "Gotta fix this before it sets wrong..." she said, apology in her eyes. She looked down and pulled quickly, cringing at the feel of bone grating against bone under her fingers but still putting it where it belonged and holding it for a moment. "I'm assuming you undead bastards heal faster than usual..." she said, trying to sound light hearted.
She gently laid his arm to the side, careful not to jar it. Not bothering with subtlety, she grabbed the cloth near the top button on his shirt and yanked hard, buttons flying and fabric tearing as she bared his chest and stomach to the cool night air. "There's something about his attacks that's making it harder for you to heal, isn't there?" she said, not really asking.
CJ closed her eyes, focusing hard and letting her inner vision guide her. Her hands grew warm as she pushed everything internal back inside and held his outer flesh together, wondering if there was any way she could help the process along.
Ruki fought through the pain of his wrist being set. Honestly, it wasn't as painful as CJ holding his guts in. His flesh began to fuse back together slowly. By the time it was halfway done he sat up, taking CJ's hands into his. "CJ... Thank you." He coughed up some blood and looked to his chest as the flesh healed together. Damn it... I have to get stronger... He wasn't that strong the last time we fought... How can I keep her safe when I can be so easily killed in my own dreams? His eyes quivered as he pulled CJ into his arms, holding her close. "I promise they won't get to you..." He felt himself growing weak from his blood loss, and overall lack of blood.
Carmelia saw his eyelids flutter and she didn't feel reassured by his words. There was something bigger, stronger, than both of them at work, here. She steeled herself and reached up, pulling her shirt collar aside and baring her neck to him. "Don't try to argue... Just do it. And don't waste your energy trying to make it feel good..." She balled a fist in his hair and pressed his face into the hollow of her throat, hoping her rapid pulse would be enticing enough.
Ruki let his mouth linger on her throat for a moment before mumbling, "I'm sorry..." and driving his fangs into her throat. The blood poured out and into his mouth and, even though he didn't want to, he drank greedily from her. The pain from his bite would feel like a thousand fire ants biting and crawling through her veins. His body grew stronger, his senses becoming more animalistic...
"Always apologizing... Stop getting hurt and this won't be such a common occurrence." Each word was a struggle, each breath. A light sheen of sweat covered her body and her knuckles buried in his hair turned white as she fought not to scream from the excruciating pain. His grip grew stronger and hers weaker. Being crushed to his now whole-again chest was a welcome distraction from the hurting. She'd been biting down on her lip to keep quiet and a rivulet of blood trailed down her chin and slender neck, coming to rest between her breasts.
I can't stop! God, it's all I need... All I long for... The blood... The Hunger! His mind was reeling as he drank more and more from her. He tried to reason in vain with the Animal that took control. His mind flashed and he caught a glimpse of Gekido. Must... Protect her! He let go of CJ and pushed himself away from her. She was still breathing and barely conscious. "What have I done?!" he slammed his fist into the sidewalk, cracking the concrete with little effort. With inhuman speed, he moved to CJ and scooped her up into his arms. "I'll get you to a hospital, CJ. Don't worry..."

If this is my dream, then you're nothing but a failed nightmare!" He reached out and sunk his teeth into Gekido's neck, focusing on his ability to produce an extreme pain from his bite to distract the Infernal.
